Meals on Wheels

Things it might be helpful to know about this program:

  • Meals on Wheels provides nutritional support, regular social contact and security checks to people living independently in the community.
  • To be eligible for service clients must live within Reconnects MOW service area.
  • Meals on Wheels is affordable, meaning that you will pay the same price for a meal, regardless of where you live in the service area.
  • If you are living within the Toronto area, you are eligible for Meals on Wheels if you cannot live independently without the nutritional support that the program provides.
  • Meals on Wheels may be accessed through any referral pathway.
  • You will receive your first meal within two business days of being accepted into the program, and earlier if the meal is urgently needed.
  • As part of the program, your health and home safety will be assessed, and you will be referred to other supports, if they are needed.
  • All meals will meet nutritional guidelines set out by Canada’s Food Guide.
  • You will have access to meals that meet your special dietary needs.
  • The person delivering your meal is trained on all aspects of the role, in order to help you live safely in the community.
  • You may cancel meals for free if done so before 3:00 p.m. the day before your scheduled delivery.
  • Your feedback is important to help improve the program.


Once in service you can expect the following:

  • The MOW Coordinator will review with you your dietary needs, meal cost and your delivery schedule before service begins
  • You will be asked to provide an emergency contact.
  • Meal will be delivered within the delivery window.
  • Access to current price list
  • Receive a monthly menu
  • Changes in your health and significant events or concerns will be documented.
  • You may be discharged for the following reasons:
  • Your choice
  • If the meals are no longer suitable
  • On hold for more than 30 days
  • Frequent failure to pay for the service
  • Moved outside the service area
  • You will be made aware of the agency’s complaint process and how to access it.
  • You will be made aware of your right to privacy, how your personal health information is being kept secure, and how and under what circumstances the agency will collect, use or disclose your personal health information.
